Alcoholics Relapse

Many people slip back into addiction when they are triggered. These triggers are usually minor in nature but can on set a series of emotional and physical strains in the addicted person. There are a variety of reasons why Alcoholics Relapse. The reasons can be varied from improper treatment from rehab centers, or social-psychological conflicts. It is hard for an outsider to know the reason why alcoholics relapse. The fact remains that relapse prevention is the important and to prevent relapse the reasons for these relapses should be scrutinized. A few reasons are:

• Socializing with the wrong crowd can put a person’s sobriety in jeopardy. The influence of negative people can push a person towards abusing alcohol again. Treatment opens the door for the addicted people to socialize. This positive approach can have negative consequences. Addicted people most of the time lacks the confidence to say no. They feel that by refusing to drink they are spoiling their own image. However even one drink can act as a trigger for the addicted person to start consuming alcohol uncontrollably.
• Alcohol is a beverage which is widely available. There is a liquor shop in every corner of the city. The problem is alcohol is also available illegally. These liquor shops can trigger the memory of addicts' past habits. The crowd in front of these shops can assure the addicted person that there are people like them. Therefore the wide availability of the product can also be a reason why alcoholics relapse.
• Once the treatment is complete the addicted person is back in their normal lives. As time passes they start feeling the pressures and stresses of their work and private life. If the spiritual mind of the recovering person is not strong enough to deal with such situations, they can go back to alcohol to find pleasure.
• Drinking problems can detach the addicted person from society. It becomes very hard to interact with people after such a problem. The recovering people face a lot of mental pressure when they are re-integrated with society. Their image of self is weak and unsatisfactory which can lead to troubled relationships with society. On the note of taking revenge from society they tend to damage their own lives. The stress of such troubled relationships can push the person back into alcoholism.
• The seemingly minor but very important reason for a relapse can be a post-treatment celebration. The celebration of the recovering persons return home can also be a major trigger. An addict fresh out of the center may be mentally weak. However if the family members fail to understand this and start celebrating with alcohol and other beverages, this can emotionally affect the recovering person back into alcoholism.

Therefore the family members should create enough motivation for the recovering person to stay away from alcohol. They should be agile and monitor every step of the person to prevent a relapse.
